Unsorted cleaning tips and tricks in bullet format. I might organise it later when it grows big enough.
- Never mix cleaning products otherwise it can form a toxic chemical that might harm you (especially don't mix bleach with anything), so don't trust on these "recipes" online they're dangerous and don't work.
- To clean the cat's fur off the sofa you can use the rough part of a wet kitchen sponge, throw the caught fur away then repeat.
- To clean fur and hair from the shower drain, sink drain or any kind of drain just use a barbecue stick (or any kind of wooden stick), pop it inside the drain then roll it like it was cotton candy to collect all the mess.
- Use plain vinegar or alcohol to clean the mirrors (no need to buy expensive glass cleaning products), also you can use it on the windows or, alternatively, wash them.
- You can just use the combo stainless steel scrubber + kitchen liquid detergent to clean almost everything on the house: clean your windows with it, your toilet, shower, bathroom sink, the tiles on the wall of your kitchen/bathroom, your kitchen sink or stuck oil grime on the kitchen cabinets, name a thing and if you can wash it you can use this combo. Just take care with materials that scratch easily (per ex the fridge), in this case use a microfiber sponge instead of the metal scrubber.
- Opt for a microfiber duster instead of a feather duster because the feather one just spills dust everywhere so it doesn't clean anything while the microfiber type traps the dust on it.
- Use a mix of baking soda and water to clean the oven, just mix a bit of baking soda with water until it forms a paste and spread inside the oven, then remove it after a while using a damp cloth. You can use the same mixture to clean the pans (but it doesn't do any miracles, keep in mind that it won't perfectly clean a stained pan).
- Use a dry stainless steel scrubber to remove the grime off your shower walls and curtains, all the grime will either drop on the floor or get stuck on the scrubber. Then throw again the used scrubber and use a new one with detergent to finish cleaning it.
- Use a microfiber sponge and kitchen liquid detergent to clean your fridge, don't need to spend money on expensive cleaning products and the result is the same.
- Use plain vinegar to clean strong smells (like cat's urine), but keep in mind that it leaves a strong vinegar odour on the applied area.
- Use a small brush (like a toothbrush) to clean the bottle's lid, vacuum's filter and other small areas unreachable with a sponge.
- No cleaning product does wonders, also don't believe in cleaning ads. I can't stress this enough, a magical cleaning product doesn't exist, you need to scrub hard to remove the dirt unless you use a strong product like acid.
- Hand wash delicate clothing, especially underwear and especially padded bras so they can last longer since the washing machine can ruin delicate fabric, like lace, and crumple the foam on the bras.
- Use the mop's bucket to clean the mop. Add water and kitchen liquid detergent on the bucket, then place it under running water then alternatively squeeze it on the wet part and on the dryer under the running water until it's clean.
